This is my 8th
year at Prospect Mill Elementary School. Along with teaching,
I'm the school's Technology Liaison, part of the School Improvement
Team, and coordinator
of the School Store.
With my love of computers comes many opportunities for integrating
technology in the curriculum.
On a personal
note, I have been
married to my husband Dave for twelve years.
I was born and raised in Maryland! I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from Towson University, and my M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from American Intercontinental University (AIU). As of August 2008, I've completed 12 credits toward my doctorate in Teacher Leadership. However, I have decided to take at least a semester off to catch my breath.
As a teacher, I believe that all children have the desire and thirst for knowledge. Each student will enter the classroom with their own unique and special abilities. I look forward to exploring their individuality and specific needs. It will always be my deep commitment to teach each student regardless of his or her strengths and/or weaknesses, abilities and/or disabilities, in order to maximize their individual achievement.
In our classroom, it is always essential for each of my students to feel respected and understood. And, I believe it will always be my responsibility to set the tone for mutual respect and understanding in the classroom. In this atmosphere, students will learn how to work together cooperatively by sharing their individual strengths in order to maximize their learning and the learning of their classmates.
I firmly believe that each student has something unique to contribute to the framework of our classroom, our school, and to society. It is my job to teach students to take responsibility for their actions within this framework. I will provide each student with a safe, nurturing environment that will allow exploration, understanding, and engaging activities in order to stimulate learning.
I strongly believe that family interaction, involvement, and support are an essential backbone to a student's learning. Because of the family's vital role in educating children, I will make every effort to build a strong background of communication that will foster mutual understanding. As a parent, I understand the importance of family taking an active and responsible role in their child's education. As a teacher, I have witnessed how the power of a positive relationship between the parent and teacher effect the performance of a student. I will provide the resources to make certain this happens!
